What is Vitamin B12 or folate deficiency anaemia?

Vitamin B12 and folate deficiency anaemia occurs when a lack of these essential vitamins prevents the body from producing enough healthy red blood cells. Causes include poor dietary intake, certain digestive conditions that affect absorption, and, for B12, a condition called pernicious anaemia.

Symptoms can include fatigue, weakness, pale skin, shortness of breath, and, particularly with B12 deficiency, symptoms affecting the nerves such as tingling, numbness, or balance problems.
