What is The mini pill?

The mini pill, or progestogen-only pill, is a form of hormonal contraception containing only progestogen, unlike the combined pill which also contains oestrogen. It works mainly by thickening cervical mucus to prevent sperm reaching an egg, and in some types, by also preventing ovulation.

It's taken every day without a break, and unlike some other contraceptive pills, timing can be important, with some types needing to be taken within a strict window each day to remain effective.
