What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine, which can develop at any age but is most commonly noticed during the growth spurt just before puberty. In most children, the cause isn't known (idiopathic scoliosis), though it can occasionally be linked to an underlying condition.

Mild scoliosis often needs nothing more than monitoring, as it doesn't always progress or cause problems. More significant curves may need bracing during growth, or in some cases, surgery, depending on the degree of curvature and how much growth remains.
