What is Rash in Children?

Rashes are extremely common in childhood and have many possible causes, from viral infections and heat to allergic reactions, eczema, and minor skin irritation. Most rashes in otherwise well children are harmless and settle on their own within a few days.

The pattern, appearance, and any accompanying symptoms usually help determine the cause — a rash alongside fever, or one that doesn't fade under pressure, needs prompt medical attention, while a mild, isolated rash in a well child is usually not urgent.
