What is Hyperemesis Gravidarum (Very Severe Sickness in Pregnancy)?

Hyperemesis gravidarum is a severe form of pregnancy sickness that goes well beyond typical morning sickness. It involves persistent, severe nausea and vomiting that can lead to dehydration, weight loss, and difficulty keeping down food or fluids, sometimes requiring hospital treatment.

It most commonly starts in the first trimester and can continue longer than typical morning sickness, sometimes throughout pregnancy. While exhausting and distressing, it is treatable, and with the right support most people go on to have healthy pregnancies.
