What is Eczema in Babies and Children?

Eczema is a common skin condition in babies and children that causes dry, itchy, red patches of skin, often on the face, behind the knees, and inside the elbows. It results from a weakened skin barrier that allows moisture to escape and lets irritants in more easily, and often runs in families with a history of asthma, hay fever, or eczema.

Many children improve significantly or grow out of eczema by school age, and it's usually well managed with consistent skincare, though flares can still happen from time to time.
