What is Dengue (Dengue Fever)?

Dengue fever is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes, common in tropical and subtropical regions, causing symptoms like high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, and a rash. Most cases are uncomfortable but resolve within about a week with rest and supportive care.

A small proportion of cases can progress to a more severe form of the illness, which needs prompt hospital treatment, so it's important to know the warning signs, especially if travelling to or returning from an affected area.
