What is Dandruff?

Dandruff is a common scalp condition causing flaking of the skin, often accompanied by itching. It's thought to be related to a mild inflammatory reaction to a yeast that naturally lives on the scalp, and can be worsened by dry skin, certain hair products, or stress.

It's not caused by poor hygiene and is not contagious. It usually responds well to specific anti-dandruff shampoos, which are widely available and effective for most people.
