What is Cot Death (SIDS)?

Cot death, also known as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), is the sudden and unexpected death of an apparently healthy baby, usually during sleep, that remains unexplained after investigation. While rare, and becoming rarer as safe sleep guidance has become widely known and followed, it remains one of the most feared concerns for new parents.

A number of evidence-based safe sleep practices have been shown to significantly reduce the risk, which is why they're now widely recommended for every sleep, day and night, from birth.
