What is Cold (Common Cold)?

The common cold is a mild viral infection of the nose and throat, causing symptoms like a runny or blocked nose, sneezing, sore throat, and mild cough. It's extremely common, especially in autumn and winter, and usually resolves on its own within a week to ten days without needing specific treatment.

There's no cure for the common cold, since it's caused by any of over 200 different viruses, but symptoms can be managed with rest, fluids, and over-the-counter remedies while your immune system clears the infection.
