What is Bulimia?

Bulimia is an eating disorder involving cycles of eating large amounts of food (bingeing), followed by behaviours to compensate, such as vomiting, excessive exercise, or misusing laxatives, driven by intense feelings of guilt or fear of weight gain. It can affect people of any body size and often develops alongside low self-esteem or difficulty coping with emotions.

Bulimia can have serious physical effects over time, but it's a recognised, treatable condition, and many people make a full recovery with the right specialist support.
