What is Boils and Carbuncles?

A boil is a painful, pus-filled lump that forms under the skin, usually caused by a bacterial infection of a hair follicle. A carbuncle is a cluster of connected boils, often causing more significant pain and sometimes fever, and tends to take longer to heal.

Many boils drain and heal on their own within a couple of weeks, but larger boils and carbuncles often need medical treatment, such as drainage or antibiotics, to resolve fully and prevent the infection from spreading.
